Dogs drink a lot of water. Your dog is your friend til the end, make sure they always have their water tray full. If you think your dog might be dehydrated it’s always best to first consult with your veterinarian. The internet can only take you so far by attempting to do things on your own but there are a few ways you can tell that dog has become dehydrated.

Reasons for dehydration

There can be many reasons why but here are a few ways to have a general idea of what could be happening:

  • Not drinking enough water
  • Vomiting a lot
  • Too much heat without hydration
  • Diarrhea

What to check for (the signs)

  • Look for a dry nose
  • Look in the corner of their eyes to make sure there are tears
  • Pull the skin on the back of the neck, and make sure it’s flexible and goes back in place after pulling it.

Don’t forget check the gums

Look at you dogs mouth but make sure they aren’t irritated and try to bite you, ouch! Nothing worse than hurt feelings and a dog bite.

  • Stick your finger in between the lips and gums and slide it around.
  • If it sticks to the gums and doesn’t move this is a sign on possible dehydration.

Finals Thoughts

Always call your vet first, but if your really concerned use a simple way to get an idea. Check your dog’s eye, skin, nose, and mouth then tell your vet what you came to find.
